Step 1
Did you know that baking soda can be used to clean fresh fruits and vegetables? The next time you come home from the grocery store, add 2-3 tablespoons of baking soda to your sink filled with cold water and delicately wash your produce. Baking soda works as a natural disinfectant to remove impurities safely and easily from food.

Step 2
Baking soda is also great for tenderizing meats. The compounds found in baking soda break down the meat and make it more tender when rubbed down and allowed to sit for three or more hours in the refrigerator. Make sure to rinse the meat thoroughly with water before marinating and cooking.

Step 3
You can also use baking soda directly in the food you eat. The next time you make breakfast eggs, add in 1/2 teaspoon baking soda to make your eggs lighter and fluffier. Or, put them in beans to reduce the post-bean gas effect. Baking soda reduces acid and neutralizes gas. It can also be used to get rid of harsh smells in your refrigerator or even on your hands from handling smelly foods.

Step 4
Have a clogged drain? Pour one cup of baking soda and one cup of vinegar into your backed up drain and flush with hot water. Repeat until your drain is free and easy again. For tough and resistant drains, you may need the mixture to sit overnight and then flush again in the morning with hot water.

Step 5
The next time you have a rash or itchy skin, create a baking soda paste. Mix baking soda with water and apply to irritated skin (avoiding eyes) and allow the paste to sit for a few minutes. This is a natural and organic way to relieve minor skin irritations. Dandruff sufferers can also find relief with baking soda. Mix a little of it with water and apply to your hair. In less than a few weeks, you should notice dandruff-free hair.
