How to Clean My Dog's Ears
A dog's ears need to be cleaned, just like the rest of its body --- especially if it's been playing in the dirt. You can wash the dog's ears by themselves or during a bath. Some dogs don't mind their ears washed. Other dogs try to pull away. Staying calm and petting the dog helps ease its anxieties.

Cleaning Just the Ears
-
1
Squeeze one to two drops of dog shampoo into the bowl. Fill the bowl half full with warm water.
-
2
Dip the washcloth into the bowl to wet it. Squeeze out the extra water and soap.
-
-
3
Wipe out the inside of the dog's ears. Do not press deep into the ear or squeeze it. Dunk the washcloth back into the water after cleaning the insides of each ear.
-
4
Wipe the outside of the ears in the direction the fur grows.
-
5
Rinse the washcloth with warm water. Wipe the soap out of the dog's ears, both inside and outside.
Bathtime Cleaning
-
6
Fill a bathtub with enough water to reach the dog's ankles. The exact amount depends on how tall the dog is.
-
7
Pour warm water from the tub over the dog with a cup. Cover its eyes and snout with your hand when you wet its face.
-
8
Squeeze four to five drops of soap on the dog's fur. Work it into the fur with your fingers.
-
9
Gently rub the inside and outside of the ears with your soapy hands.
-
10
Pour warm, clean water over the dog's ears. Do not pour the water directly down them. Rinse off the dog with water. Remove it from the dog and dry it.
