Instructions

Choose a type of protein powder such as a flavored variety, whey protein or rice protein. Common flavors of protein powder include vanilla, strawberry, chocolate and mixed berry. T

    • 2

Select fresh fruits and vegetables that will compliment the protein flavor you have chosen. For instance, if you are using strawberry protein powder, select bananas and strawberries or another berry of your choice. You may also use frozen fruit. When you are going for a "power shake" with a high amount of protein and nutrients, combine vegetables with whey or rice protein.

    • 3

Choose the liquid that will be the base of your protein shake. You may choose a low-fat milk, almond or rice milk, all-natural fruit juice or water.

    • 4

Select optional additional flavors to add to your protein shake such as nuts or seeds, honey, yogurt or natural peanut butter. These foods add more protein to your shake while also making it tastier. Yogurt will make a thicker protein shake, similar to a smoothie, while natural peanut butter tastes great with chocolate protein powder and bananas.

    • 5

Add your liquid ingredients to your blender first, followed by the protein powder and remaining ingredients. Add a few ice cubes for a smoothie consistency. If you are using frozen fruit, ice will not be necessary. Blend until smooth.
