Step 1
Pick fresh Basil leaves. Pick enough fresh Basil leaves to fill a large plastic or glass container about ¾ of the way. The container should be large enough to hold about a gallon of water. Old, washed milk jugs work well.
-
Step 2
Tear the fresh Basil leaves and put them in your container until your container is about ¾ of the way full, loosely placed, not packed.
-
Step 3
Fill the container with very hot water and place the lid on the container.
-
Step 4
Place the container on a sunny window sill or outside in the sun. Leave it for about 1 week.
-
Step 5
Put a squirt of mild dishwashing detergent or mild hand soap in the container and mix well.
-
Step 6
Pour the liquid into a spray bottle. Pour through a piece of cheesecloth to separate the Basil from the liquid. Put the Basil leaves in your compost pile or bin.
-
Step 7
Spray the aphid infested plants with the Basil water. Spray whenever you see aphids. This spray will also work to prevent aphids from eating your plants. Spray once per week, reapply after a rainfall.
