How to use MSN instant messenger on a MAC

Instant messaging is a great way to communicate with your friends and family. Today, we are going to set up an account with MSN. So let's get started, just follow the steps below to continue.

  1. Step 1

    Download. Google MSN instant messenger. Follow the instructions for downloading the software and download it to your desktop.

  2. Step 2

    Installing. Once the program has downloaded, an icon will appear. Double click on it and follow the instructions.

  3. Step 3

    Setting up an account. MSN is linked to its sister e-mail program hotmail. If you have a hotmail, you can use your email address as your username for MSN.

  4. Step 4

    Adding MSN contacts. Click the add button at the top left-hand corner of the screen. Type in your friends email address and click "next". An email will be sent to them.

  5. Step 5

    Check who is online. Your personal contact window will show how many of your contacts are online.

  6. Step 6

    Customizing your account. Go to "Messenger" on the tool bar and click on "Preferences". Now you can customize your account.

  7. Step 7

    Sending an instant message. Go to send at the top and choose a contact you wish to talk to. A window should pop up wit a large text box. You type your message in the smaller text box. When you click send, the message will appear in the large text box.

  8. Step 8

    Having a conversation. You and your friend will have the same screen displayed on the computer. When they send you messages, their messages will appear in your large text box. You can send them a message as soon as you receive one from them.

  9. Step 9

    Group conversation. To have a group conversation, hit the invite icon and choose the person you wish to add.

  10. Step 10

    Adding emoticons. To add an emoticon to your message, click on the smile face at the end of the text box.

  11. Step 11

    Attaching files. To send a file, click "send file". Choose a contact and then a file.

  12. Step 12

    Security. If you get a message from someone you don't know, block that person from sending you anything else. So that's it, you are done.
