A social essay will attempt to talk about social ideas, social theories, societal change, analysis and psychology. These anthropological subjects need to be studied with insight and patience. Social concepts are usually introduced through a study curriculum in school or college. Students are called upon to read a set work on social theory, to research it and then to write a critical essay on the subject. The essay should provide the topic, the scope, the thesis and the structure, or sequence as it is called in some countries. The following are some steps for writing a good social essay.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pen
  • Paper
  • Word Processor
  1. Step 1

Lay out how the essay will cover your subject in the introduction. Write a sentence explaining the topic and another sentence explaining the scope of the essay that is what part of the big picture you will focus on. In the next sentence tell the reader what ideas of point of view you will present, and finally give the structure or sequence of details that the reader can expect to read about. Remember as any essay, the introduction is a microcosm of the whole essay. The subjects of each paragraph should be already raised in your introduction.

  2. Step 2

Expand the subjects/topics you have laid out in the structure sentence of the introductory paragraph. Ensure that each paragraph only covers one topic. In this area the student can be original in devising social theory, analyzing and studying to assist in judging trends in society which can predict social problems. A theory you develop social essay can be useful to societies and affect the social strength growing out of many community changes.

  3. Step 3

Social essays often have a variety of topics but they usually have something to do with areas that will have touched us in one way or another. The following are some of the topics that are given to students to write social essays about. Drug abuse and its effects on society, Welfare and the government, Economy and history, Crime and social controls, The evolution of society out of hardships, Crime on the internet, Changes in society and social values.

  4. Step 4

Develop the essay in a logical structure and sequence. Take into account the technical aspects of your writing and ensure it is free of errors. As you write more essays you will become better at it and as you go through school or college you will learn to master the process of essay writing with such expertise that readers will enjoy reading your work. All through school students are called upon to write essays, and for good reasons, the key to communicating well is writing well.

  5. Step 5

Use sociological theories to show your understanding of our world. Write about environmental issues in an environmental essay. Don’t be afraid to challenge certain assumptions in social theory and apply them to the modern world. Independent thought and discussion of established theories show that you have been reading and absorbing the set reading material. Seeing concepts in sociology from the outside is not always easy when you yourself are involved in that society, but your situation may give you a unique perspective on the problem, guiding you to produce an insightful essay.

  6. Step 6

Quote and reference the ideas and work of established sociologists. When writing a critical essay you will not be required to be original, in fact, the more references you can write into your paper the better results you will have with the essay. Showing understanding and analysis of established social theories in connection to the application in a social dilemma is what highlights your understanding of the topic. Explain your ideas deeper and how they are relevant in society. Borders might separate countries but not necessarily moral behavior. Is it the same in neighboring countries or will morals be flexible to suit the values and beliefs of that culture?
