Things You'll Need:

  • CAKE
  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 Tbsp. butter
  • 2 eggs, separated into 2 bowls of yolks and whites
  • FILLING
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream, whipped
  • FROSTING
  • 3 squares unsweetened chocolate
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 6 tsp. whole milk
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 round cake pans, 9 inch, greased and floured
  • 3 large bowls
  • 2 small bowls
  • 1 double boiler
  1. Step 1

To make the cake: Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk together until well combined. In a small bowl, beat the 2 egg yolks and add to the flour mixture. In a small bowl, whip the egg whites until very stiff and forms peaks. Fold into the flour mixture. Pour the batter into the 2 cake pans and bake for 20 mins. or until done. Cool on wire racks.

  2. Step 2

To Make the Filling: In the double boiler, add the 2 beaten eggs. Whisk in the flour and sugar. Add the milk in gradually and cook over medium heat until thick, stirring. Remove from the heat and add the salt, butter, and vanilla. Mix well. Cool the milk mixture. Stir in the heavy cream which has already been whipped. Set aside.

  3. Step 3

To Make the Frosting: In a large bowl add the chocolate squares, sugar, and milk. Melt the chocolate in the microwave, taking out and stirring occasionally. Add the butter and vanilla. Beat well until a smooth consistency. Add more milk if necessary.

  4. Step 4

Carefully split both layers of the cake. Spread the filling between all layers of the cake. Frost with the chocolate. Refrigerate.
