Things You'll Need:
- String
- Drywall saw
- Utility Knife
- Drywall mud
- Screen
- Wood stick
- Scraper
- Drywall tape
- Sandpaper drywall fine grade
- Sanding block
-
Step 1
We all have them, those oops I put a hole in the drywall. The following steps will show you how to repair these like new.
-
Step 2
For a hole 1 to 5 inches clear away any loose paper and drywall. Leave the inside of the hole rough for the drywall mud to stick to. Now cut a piece of screen about 2 inches larger than your hole. Find a flat piece of wood larger than your hole and tie the string around the center of the stick. Thread the string through the screens center.
-
Step 3
Bend the screen and insert the stick and the screen into the hole. Pull the stick until the screen lays flat against the back of the hole. Hold the string tight and fill the hole working from the outside edge to the center. Make sure the mud sticks to the screen. Tape the string to the wall. Making sure it is tight.
-
Step 4
When the mud has dried completely cut the string flush with the wall. Now apply some more drywall mud to bring the hole level with the wall. This may require more than one application.
-
Step 5
It makes no difference how large or small your hole is the last step is the same. Use a wide joint knife and spread a smooth thin layer of mud over the repaired area. Go beyond the repaired area and feather out the compound so your patch job will look like a normal wall.
-
Step 6
Now it is time to sand the area. After the compound is completely dry sand the area with a fine grade of drywall sandpaper on a sanding block.
Sand to reach the desired look you want. Wipe with a dry cloth and paint. You are done. Wasn't so bad was it.
