Step 1
Have and put forth a confident attitude if you really want that raise. You must trust in yourself and the service that you provide if you expect others to as well. Don't walk around and allow yourself to go unnoticed or blend in always keep your head held high and show that you and your job are important. If you follow this a long with the next steps it is unlikely that you won't get that requested pay increase.
-
Step 2
Never give less than 100% when it comes to your job performance. If the powers that be see that you are a good employee who always does their best and invests 100% all the time in the work that you do then they will be more apt to be open to discussions of a wage increase.
-
Step 3
Keep your personal problems and/or bad attitude at home or at least out of the work place. Cocky, rude, disorganized, unmotivated, snotty, anti-social and so on do not have a place in the workplace. Put your best foot forward always be respectful, say hi to fellow employees/employers and give no reason for others to question your ability to function in the workplace.
-
Step 4
Don't ask for a raise too early. You need to prove to your employer that you are loyal, hardworking and dedicated - all of which come with time. Unless you hold a position that no one else is qualified to take over, it is best to have a few years with the same employer under your belt before you go asking for a pay increase.
-
Step 5
Prove yourself at the right time. Timing can be everything, if there is a major crisis or financial issues at work then it is not the right time to be asking for a bigger paycheck. However, if you bide your time and ask for a meeting and review at a time when you or your personal position has had the opportunity to really shine then it may work to your advantage and help land you that pay increase.
-
Step 6
Plan ahead and don't get caught unprepared. Know what you want to ask for and why you deserve what you are asking for long before you ever ask for a pay increase.
