You wake up in the morning with a craving for hash brown potatoes for breakfast. You check the freezer for a bag of frozen hash browns but you find none. The only potatoes you have in the house are raw and unpeeled. What do you do if you don't want to run to the store? Make your own, it's easy, fast and probably less expensive than the frozen varieties. Without a doubt it is healthier than processed frozen hash browns that are loaded with preservatives.

Wash the potatoes thoroughly. I use a brush to scrub them under running water. One small potato will yield one serving of hash browns.

    Add butter

Add butter while the potatoes are cooking. This gives them a buttery flavor. If you are trying for lower fat hash browns you can spray with butter flavored non-stick cooking spray. When I use the spray I repeat several times while the hash browns are cooking.

  12. Step 12

Season to taste. Options include adding salt, pepper, diced onions or diced peppers. Use your imagination and create your own unique flavor!

  13. Step 13
    Stir
    Stir

Stir, flip and turn numerous times with a spatula while the potatoes are cooking. Do this until the majority of the diced potatoes are a golden brown.
