How to Deal With Rude People On a Daily Basis

If you work in customer service, have neighbors, go shopping, or ride the bus, you are going to encounter rude people.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Don't blame yourself. Rude people are rude no matter what, and you are the innocent victim. If you are being as nice as possible and trying to gelp them out, don't take the blame for their rudeness, it has nothing to do with you.

  2. Step 2

Listen. You might be able to help them out of their bad mood by having the solution to their problem. For example. Someone pushes past you on the bus, muttering, "I can't find the next bus on my route!" you might be able to help them find their bus, thus helping them have a better day.

  3. Step 3

Remember that many people are having a tough time with money. If you are in a service position that takes people's money, they may be stressed and worried about spending and more impatient when you are working with them.

  4. Step 4

Be as helpful and friendly as you can. You get more flies with honey than with vinegar, and you might just spare the next person that gets into the "rudies" way some grief!
