If you have a black and white photo that you want to edit, and you don't have access to photo-editing software, there is a way to do it online. FotoFlexer is an online photo-editing utility that is free to use and has many of the capabilities of a regular photo-editing program. One of the things that you can do with it is to colorize black and white images.

Load the image you want to colorize onto your computer. Go to the Fotoflexer site. Once there scroll to the bottom to a series of clickable tabs representing the various functions of the online editor, e.g. "Retouch," "Shapes," and "Layers." To add color to a photo click on the "Advanced" tab. The editing utility will load.

In the next window will be a preview of the image that can be scaled up or down. There also is a smaller preview in the lower corner that explains how the tools work. Color and brush-size options also can be selected. Switch the "Recolor Type" to "Solid."

Once you have picked the color and area you want to paint, use the brush tool to start painting. It's not uncommon to change colors and brush sizes as the work progresses. Be patient; it's a long process to obtain good results. Then click "OK." In the next window click on the "Save" button at the top. Choose the format (JPEG or PNG) and click "Save to my "Computer."
