Step 1
Measuring tapeMeasure your space by room length, room width, closet width and closet depth. Also measure the furniture that will be going into the room by width and length at the widest/longest part of the piece of furniture.
-
Step 2
Room plans should look similar to this.Use the graph paper to draw a blueprint of the space, using each square on the grid as one square foot of room space. On a seperate sheet of graph paper draw your furniture as well, using the same formula. Cut the furniture drawings out.
-
Step 3
Place your furniture cutouts on the image of your room. Move them around until you reach a visually appealing and functional arrangement. Make sure that doors will be able to be opened and windows can be easily accessed.
-
Step 1
Color samples are available in many shades and hues.Go to your local home improvement or paint store, and pick out a few samples of colors that you like. Stick to lighter colors because dark colors tend to make a room feel and look smaller. Take the samples home to look them over and choose one.
-
Step 2
Pick out a wallpaper border that compliments the color you chose. Complementary colors are found at opposite ends of the color wheel. Paint your celing with white celing paint. Paint the walls with your desired color, and apply your border according to the manufacturer's instructions.
-
Step 3
Closet organizers create storage.Purchase a closet organizer that will fit the dimensions of your closet, and offer the best options for your storage needs.
-
Step 1
Assemble your closet organizer according to the instructions. Add some decorative baskets to hold smaller items such as jewelry, make-up, toys, etc. Girls do love shoes, so consider hanging a shoe organizer off of one rack.
-
Step 2
Floating shelves add vertical interest.Add shelving in the main area of the room for decorative items. In small rooms, horizontal space is limited, so shelving is a practical way to use the vertical space that you have.
-
Step 3
Place large toys or bulky clothes in wide plastic bins that are small enough to slide easily under the bed. The space under the bed is an alternative to a bulky toybox or sweater closet using up valuable floor space.
-
Step 1
Choose long curatins in a solid color that complement the other colors in your room. Floor-length curatins will showcase your vertical space, and take attention away from the size of the room.
-
Step 2
Purchase bedding in a neutral shade according to your color scheme. Choose several throw pillows in keeping with your color theme. Almost all of the throw pillows should be solid colors, but add two or three pillows with patterns to add interest to the design.
-
Step 3
Add a mirror or two to make the room look bigger. Mirrors are available in many styles to complement your clean-lined design.
