    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Washing soda
    • Hydrogen peroxide
    • Spray bottle
      • 1

Buy washing soda. Most recipes you find for homemade OxiClean tell you to use baking soda; however, what you really want is washing soda. Washing soda is found in the laundry aisle of most supermarkets. Arm & Hammer makes Super Washing Soda and it's in a big yellow box. You can also order washing soda online. Washing soda is very cheap and good for many other uses as well.

Buy hydrogen peroxide. You can find hydrogen peroxide in the health and beauty section of any store. It is usually in a brown bottle, comes in several sizes and is very cheap. Peroxide is great for many uses, so if you don't use it all in this recipe, it is good to have some on hand.

      • 3

Buy a spray bottle. If you don't have a clean spray bottle, you can buy one really cheap at any store. Look in the laundry section or in the cosmetics section of your local supermarket or drug store.

      • 4

Mix your ingredients. Use 2 tablespoons of washing soda to 1 cup of peroxide. Pour the desired amount of peroxide in the spray bottle, then add the washing soda. You can make a funnel with a piece of paper to make adding the washing soda easier. Now add the cover to the bottle and let it sit for a day. Give it a gentle shake before each use and use on any stain just like you would use OxiClean.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Always test your homemade OxiClean solution on a hidden area of your fabric, especially if you are cleaning a spot on a carpet. Even the real OxiClean can cause what many people think is a bleach stain, but is actually most likely just a really clean spot on your dirty carpet. If you want your entire carpet to match the newly-cleaned spot, then get on your hands and knees and clean your entire carpet.
