How to Break the Habit of Nail Biting can lead to healthier happier nails and a less stressed you. Here are some tips and tricks to break that nasty Nail Biting habit.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Nail Biting is medically termed onychophagia and can be caused by many varying things. Stress or habit is usually the cause of this biting of nails. To take the first few steps to break the Nail Biting habit reduce the stress in your life (easier said than done).

  2. Step 2

Next you will try to 'unlearn' the habit. Nail biting can be unlearned in a variety of ways but the two biggest are using nail polishes or creams, and replacing the destructive habit with a constructive habit.
For the first method there are many products that one can put on their nails that make it undesirable to bite them, some are barriers others leave a bitter taste in the mouth. For the second all you must do is when you feel like biting your nails go and do a constructive task.
These methods though take time to unlearn Nail Biting.
Brand names to get: Malva, Control-It! etc.

  3. Step 3

Next one can look into hypnotherapy. This is used in just the same way it breaks habits such as smoking, you are hypnotized and it is suggested that you stop. Beware though, Hypnosis is one of those things that dosen't work for everyone. Some people cannot be hypnotized or aren't as suggestible once they are hypnotized. This also will probably cost more money than the above method.

  4. Step 4

Next you can use just sheer willpower to rid yourself of the habit. Pick a day to quit and tell others that you have quit and to police you on these actions. This will hold you accountable for this behavior.
