This article will teach a beginner how to do a standing backhandspring.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Flexibility and Strength
  • An experienced spotter
  • A soft mat or spring floor
  1. Step 1

The set up for a standing back handspring is to stand with your feet shoulder width apart and your arms extended straight out in front of you.

  2. Step 2

To begin the trick, sit back like you are sitting in a chair and swing your arms to a point slightly behind your hips. When your legs are parallel with the ground swing your arms back and extend your legs, jumping backwards, and arching your back.

  3. Step 3

Reach for the ground with your hands above and behind your head, and when they come in contact with the ground close your shoulder angle and push off the ground. As you push off the ground aim your feet at the ground about 1.5 ft behind your hands. To finish the trick, pick up your head and rotate your body to a standing position.

Tips & Warnings
  • To practice your flexibility, you can do a bridge stretch, with both your feet and hands on the floor and yourbelly facing upwards.
  • Do not attempt on hard gournd or near sharp objects.
  • Always use a spotter when first attempting this skill.
