Things You'll Need:
- dirty coffee pot
- alka-seltzer
- coca-cola
- efferdent
- jet-dry
- Morton Salt
-
Step 1
The easiest way to clean the tubes and pipes in a dirty coffee maker is to fill the water chamber with water, drop four Alka-Seltzer tablets in, and then run the water through. Alka-Seltzer contains ascorbic acid which breaks down and cleans build up. After you do this make sure to run clean water through your machine twice before using it again.
-
Step 2
For a dirty caraffe, simply fill in with Coca-Cola and let it sit overnight. In the morning pour out the cola and rinse it out. The phosphoric acid and ascorbic acid removes all of the grime.
-
Step 3
If your caraffe is stained fill it with water and put in two efferdent tablets, let it sit for about twenty minutes. Rinse the pot out, all of the stains should be gone.
-
Step 4
If you have calcium buildup in your coffee maker, pour four ounces of Jet-Dry into the water chamber. Fill it with water and let it sit over night. In the morning run it through, rinse the coffee maker by adding plain water and running through twice.
-
Step 5
My personal favorite for burnt on coffee stains, put a handful of ice in the caraffe, add a tablespoon of salt, and squeeze a lemon into it. Swirl the contents around until the coffee dissolves. This may take more than one time depending on how bad the build up is.
