How to Update iTunes

ITunes is a media manager that allows you to organize and play music and videos stored on your computer, as well as purchase new media through the iTunes Store. Apple periodically releases updates for the software that fix security and bug issues and add new features. If you aren't prompted automatically to download an iTunes update, you can update the program manually.

Instructions

    • 1

      Launch iTunes.

    • 2

Click "Help" and select "Check for Updates." If an update is available, the "Apple Software Update" window will open.

    • 3

Select the check box next to the iTunes update, if it isn't selected by default. If you have other Apple software, such as MobileMe or Safari, installed on your computer, you may see updates for those programs as well; you can deselect other programs if you don't want to update them at the same time as iTunes.

    • 4

Click the "Install" button. The iTunes update will download and install; depending on the size of the update and the speed of your Internet connection, this may take some time.
