Effectively Prevent Cavities

Cavities are a dental problem that affect many people, most everyone has had a cavity in their lifetime. Cavities can cause severe pain if not treated, and cavities can also cost a lot to repair when your dentist has to do it. Preventing cavities is an important part of your overall oral health. This article will outline how to effectively prevent cavities.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The first step to preventing cavities is to replace your toothbrush often. Once the bristles on your toothbrush have become frayed and wear out, the toothbrush can not clean your teeth as well. Keep an eye on the bristles of your toothbrush to make sure they do not get frayed. You should be replacing your toothbrush at least every 3 months.

  2. Step 2

The second step to effectively preventing cavities is to drink through a straw when you are drinking any fluids that are high in sugar or acid. Sugar and acid can cause tooth decay which leads to cavities. So by using a straw when drinking fluids high in sugar and acid(such as orange juice or cola) you will have the fluid go right to the back of your mouth and down your throat, which is minimizing any contact with your teeth.

  3. Step 3

Next you will want to swish some water around your mouth if you can not brush and floss after every meal. Swishing water around your mouth will disrupt bacteria from forming and will dilute it, by doing this you can stop tooth decay before it happens. This step is effective because it can stop bacteria from forming and can also loosen any food particles that have become stuck in your teeth, which will also help prevent cavities.
