Treat Tendinitis by Yourself
Treat Tendinitis by Yourself

So, you have tendinitis and you want to see how you should treat it, if for example you don't have health insurance.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • ibuprofen
  1. Step 1

First of all, you should consult your doctor if you can as only doctors can officially recommend treatment. The problem could be more serious.

  2. Step 2

However, you can do some treatments at home without seeing a doctor. First of all, try taking 400mg of Ibuprofen, 3 times a day on a full stomach for 2 weeks. This should get the inflammation down. Anytime that there is an 'itis' at the end of a complication as in tendinitis, it means inflammation of (in this case) tendons.

  3. Step 3

You can also aid the swelling of the tendon by following the RICE program: rest, ice, compression, and elevation of the injured tendon.

  4. Step 4

Other treatments that cannot be done at home are ultrasound and whirlpool treatments to relax the tendon, physical therapy, an anti-inflammatory drug injection, and in extreme cases surgery.

  5. Step 5

Consult WebMD for more information: http://arthritis.webmd.com/understanding-tendinitis-treatment

Tips & Warnings
  • Always see a doctor if you are experiencing pain and if the pain is severe!
  • Make sure you are not allergic to Ibuprofen. Ibuprofen has side effects and you should consult your doctor and the warnings on the bottle. Different doses might be appropriate for children.
  • This treatment is not appropriate for everyone and people should consult their doctors before they try to treat themselves.
