Things You'll Need:

Step 1
The first idea to keep in mind to furnish a house cheaply is to space properly. I would guess that if you can't afford the best furniture, you probably have a more modest square footage with which to work. Not judging; not judging, just being honest so that I can help you the most. Correct spacing means that you don't have to buy as much furniture, thus you can furnish the house more cheaply! Open up the room by putting mirrors up. For some reason they make rooms look bigger. Read feng shui books to learn how to space.

Step 2
Once you get the perfect spacing for your rooms, the next step to furnish a house cheaply is to consolidate your resources into the perfect pieces. We're going for quality, not quantity. We want to stay away from IKEA if we can. So another thing that feng shui books will give you is an idea of a theme. Suppose you wanted an asian theme. That could be accomplished with a simple table, and an expensive tablecloth. Now an expensive tablecloth is nowhere near the expense of an expensive table. The idea is -- basic basics, ornate accompaniment. Simple tables and chairs, but go all out on candles, the perfect all artwork; an exotic plant perfectly placed.

Step 3
After you get everything placed like you want it, you have to know where to get it. You can get the best deals on plants, artwork, and embroidered tablecloths, etc. at the farmer's market. This is what you use the internet for -- to find the farmer's markets around you, and go there. The basic furnitures can be bought from craigslist -- if you're willing to risk it, you could find some good deals -- or find a manufacturer's deal by joining one of the many manufacturers clubs around. They work. Don't pay retail. Good luck furnishing your house cheaply, and invite me over for dinner. I'm hungry!
