Step 1
Planting grass seed regardless of the time of year, must first start with the soil. In the fall, make sure the soil has the proper balance and moisture. Till up the dirt, work it and create a fine surface for the grass seed to grow.
-
Step 2
Talk to a professional about which type of grass seed is the right kind for your situation and the best to plant in the fall, normally the hardy type of grasses is best.
-
Step 3
Plant the seed heavily covering the entire the area. It is always best to put more grass seed down than less.
-
Step 4
Lightly rake over the soil to held the seed settle into the soil. This will help prevent the seed from being washed away by rain or drying up.
-
Step 5
Water the grass seed right after planting, but during the fall the soil will stay moist longer than in the summer. Avoid over watering the seed and avoid watering late in the day. Try to water during the mid-day.
