How to Increase Pitching Speed
As a pitcher in baseball, you have the most important position on the field and you alone can determine the outcome of the game. An effective pitcher can strike out members of the opposition with little effort. Increasing your pitching velocity makes you a more formidable weapon, and will help you become an effective pitcher for your team. With practice and training, you will see improvement in your pitching speed and your strikeout rate will likely increase.

1
Increase hand and elbow strength by using weighted balls during practice. Improving hand and elbow strength increases the force used in an elbow circle break while pitching. A ball in an elbow circle break never travels out of a straight line, increasing accuracy of a pitch as well.
-
2
Incorporate groin stretches and hamstring curls to strengthen the pelvis into your workout routine. Strengthening the pelvis can help increase the velocity of a pitch, because pitching uses your pelvis area to gain momentum.

3
Improve the muscles in your lower torso doing lunges, squats, calf raises and leg curls. Like your pelvis area, the lower torso helps increase the momentum of your pitch.
-
4
Strengthen and increase the speed extension in your arm by doing shoulder presses and triceps pull downs. The more strength and speed your arm extension has, the more control you have over the ball before releasing it.
-
5
Develop your forearm muscle by doing forearm curls, reverse forearm curls and hammer curls with dumbbells. The forearm controls the speed of the ball and where it travels.
-
6
Strengthen your wrist using weighted balls and doing wrist rolls. Your wrist compares to a trigger on a gun. It is the final and most important factor of the pitch because it controls mostly accuracy. Accurate pitching increases the velocity of the ball because it uses less kinetic energy in movement.
