Step 1
Pray for strength and read your Bible daily. God is the greatest physician and counselor. He can guide someone better than any man. Find scriptures that will help you each day. The Bible is full of inspirational stories and encouraging words.
-
Step 2
Get involved in a church. I do mean to go and warm a pew. Even if you are in a wheelchair, you can be productive. Help with different activities if you are able. If not, volunteer where you can. It can be as simple as greeting people at the door.
-
Step 3
Write down your feelings each day. If you like to write, find a writing site such as EHow.com or Helium.com. Even if you are not use to writing your thoughts down, you will be surprised how much better it makes you feel.
-
Step 4
Try to make friends. If you already have a friend or friends, allow them to help you through your disability. A good friend can be one of the best support systems. Be honest about how you are feeling. Talk to someone. Never hold things in. It is not good for your mind or body.
-
Step 5
Discover a new hobby for yourself. It could be collecting things like comic books or salt and pepper shakers. There is a wide variety of hobbies out there for anyone. Look online and search for hobbies. If you do not always have access to a computer, go to the library. Check out books on hobbies. Stick to it and you will pull yourself out of depression before you know it.
-
Step 6
Do not let yourself get into a deep depression. If you feel yourself slipping, tell someone. If you do not have a friend, tell your doctor that you need to have someone to talk to. He will find a good counselor. Never shut yourself out from the world. You will only make things worse on yourself and the ones who love you. Surround yourself with loved ones if you can. If you are older, join a senior citizen's club or a church organization. There are many kinds of support out there. Do not let yourself be pulled away from society.
-
Step 7
Last, but not least, eat healthy. Try to focus on eating foods that are good for your body. Eating unhealthy foods will only make your disability more painful and your health even worse. I was in a wheelchair for a couple of years and eating healthier, taking certain vitamins and herbs, and losing weight brought me out of that chair. I hope this article has helped at least one person. I pray that it helps many.
