Many parents who want to share custody of their children can use a 2/2/5/5 custody schedule. Here's how to make that kind of schedule.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The first thing you need to decide is what date you want your custody schedule to start. You and the other parent can pick a date, or there may be one in the custody order. Pick the date and start your schedule from there.

  2. Step 2

Now you need to choose what day of the week to start the 2/2/5/5 switch. This depends on what days the parents want to be with the kids. The 2/2/5/5 schedule lines up so that the parents pretty much have the same 2 days every week. Decide what works best for the mother and father.

  3. Step 3

To apply this schedule in the calendar, you should start on the weekday before your agreement starts. For example, if your schedule starts on April 1 and you decide to start the rotating schedule on a Monday, go to the Monday before April 1st.

  4. Step 4

Decide what parent starts the rotating schedule. You also need to choose the times that the days start and end. For example, you can choose to have the days start and stop when the child goes to school at 8 am. That will be the trade-off time.

  5. Step 5

Mark the first two days as custody time for the first parent. Give the other parent the next two days. Then mark the next five days for the first parent. The remaining five days go to the other parent.

  6. Step 6

You now have a two week repeating cycle. Now you go through the entire year and apply the two week repeating cycle to the year. Then you add in your holiday schedule and any special events.
