Your dogs need to be bathed on a regular basis with a gentle, nontoxic shampoo. It is better for your pets and healthier for you! Using a non-toxic soap is even more important to the environment if you chose to wash your dog outside. Make your own shampoo for dogs and you will know it does not contain any harsh or harmful chemicals. They will be happy, healthy and gorgeous!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • ¼ teaspoon essential oil (citronella, cedar wood, eucalyptus, rosemary or bay leaf)
  • 1 teaspoon Liquid Castile soap or chemical free mild shampoo
  • 1 cup water
  1. Step 1

Choose the essential oil you want to use and mix it with the liquid soap and water. The essential oils listed above will also act as a non-toxic flea repellent.

  2. Step 2

Wet your dog thoroughly. Start at the rear of the dog and work towards the face. This will keep your dog from trying to shake off the water too quickly.

  3. Step 3

Massage your home-made dog shampoo into your pet’s coat. Avoid the eyes, mouth and inside of ears. Use this time to check for ticks, burrs, parasites or matting hair.

  4. Step 4

Allow the solution to sit for a few minutes before rinsing. Remember to rinse from rear to face.

  5. Step 5

Do not bathe your dog daily because it can cause skin irritations. Once a week is normally enough.

Tips & Warnings
  • Increase the amount you make and store the remainder in an air-proof, easy to poor container. Make sure it is clearly labeled and shake before each use.
  • Reduce the amount of essential oils if your pet is sensitive.
