How to Save Space When Keeping Your Baby Shower, Wedding, or Birthday Cards in a Scrapbook

Have you ever received a 'mess' of greeting cards that celebrate a wedding, or the arrival of a new baby? Don't trash them... Here's a technique that turns that 'mess' of greeting cards into an effective keepsake, capturing the thoughts of friends and family in a space-saving manner.
This approach works great with birthday cards too.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • greeting cards
  • tape or glue
  • scrapbook with either magnetic pages or plain plastic page protectors
  • stickers (optional)
  1. Step 1

Gather up all of your celebratory cards. Until the occasion has passed completely, you may want to place your cards in a box as you receive them, or even a bag. Either way, try to keep them together. Then, when it's time, you'll be able to retrieve them quickly.

  2. Step 2

Give yourself plenty of room to work with. Spread your cards out, sort them if necessary, and make sure that they're within reach.

Have your tape, or glue, ready.

  3. Step 3

Set aside any cards that have special messages you want to display. We will work with them later in the article.

  4. Step 4

Find four cards that look great together. Stick them partially inside of one another, in a manner that makes all four visible in some way. This will create a rectangular or square-like collage.

  5. Step 5

Place tape on the back of the cards to hold them in place. Be conservative about it, though. Someday, somebody may want to separate the cards, and since they'll be held together inside the scrapbook's protective page, a ton of tape is not necessary. In other words, use just enough tape/glue to keep the cards from sliding around.

  6. Step 6

Repeat steps 4 and 5, and tape one collage to the back of the other. Place the tape in an inconspicuous place.

  7. Step 7

Carefully stuff the two-sided collage inside its page protector.

  8. Step 8

Don't be afraid to get creative. This picture shows four cards meshed together, with a raised sticker in the lower left hand corner. Since the card with the bear opens vertically, the card with the foot slipped neatly underneath its top flap. This gave the illusion that the bear was tickling the baby's foot.

  9. Step 9

Cards with special messages can be left open and used in the same way. However, you will need to use fewer cards around them, since the open cards take up double the room.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be creative. There are many ways to put the cards together.
  • You don't have to put more cards on the back side. If you like, you can place some cardstock with a picture (or pictures) in the protective page, behind the collage. No tape required.

on 10/20/2009 Great idea to scrap book the celebratory cards! I wouldn't have thought of that. Good suggestion not to use too much glue too!
