1
Set your budget before you choose a refrigerator: There is no point in looking for a new refrigerator if you don't know what you can afford. Once you decide what you will spend, don't go over this amount.
-
2
Measure the space for your new refrigerator: Be sure you have adequate space for water lines, the power cord, and ventilation. You don't want to return an appliance because you did not have a proper measurement.
-
3
Decide on the style of refrigerator: You can choose a double door, one with the freezer on the top, or one with the freezer on the bottom. My choice is a walk-in cooler, but as I do not have the space or funds for this, how realistic is this?
If you have children who need access to the refrigerator without assistance, the top freezer unit may be best for you.
If everyone in the home is tall, you may want the refrigerator unit on the top.
If you really need a wide shelf on a regular basis the French door style with the freezer on the bottom may be for you. This is the style in the top photo.
Refrigerators are available that have two top doors, with two freezer doors or drawers on the bottom. This might be ideal for your family.

Choose the exterior of the new refrigerator: You now have the choice of any color you think of, plus stainless. Some colors must be special ordered, but you can get what you want.
Do you want the water and ice service on the exterior of the refrigerator? In some models you have the option of this being inside the refrigerator.

5
Search online for refrigerators on sale: Check all stores in your area for choices and sales. Make notes of anything you would like to see, and jot down prices.
-
6
Call stores that seem to have the refrigerator you want: Be sure the store actually has the model in the store so that you can check out the features of the refrigerator in person.
-
7
When you are ready to buy the refrigerator: Once you have made a choice, go to the stores you feel have the best deals on the refrigerator you want. After you are sure about your choice, talk price. Don't pay what they are asking. Always ask for a discount. Be aware that stores will match the price of competitors.
