Great costume that no one else will have.
Great costume that no one else will have.

My daughter really wanted to be a stick man for Halloween one year, despite my repeated attempts to talk her out of it. How could you possibly make a stick man costume, I asked her. It's ridiculous. Her determination to have an original costume ended with great results.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • black, long sleeved shirt
  • black pants
  • embroidery hoop, about 12 inches in diameter
  • 4 pencils
  • black tulle, netting, or fabric screen
  • glow in the dark paint
  • glow sticks, the kind that can be made into necklaces and bracelets
  • hot glue gun with glue
  1. Step 1

First, I will tell you how to make a stick man head. Cover each circle of the embroidery hoop with the black netting. Use hot glue to secure it in place.

  2. Step 2

Use the pencils to hold the two parts of the hoop apart. Space the pencils evenly around the circle, making sure that two of the pencils are far enough apart that you can get your head into the stick man's head. Again, use the hot glue to secure the pencils.

  3. Step 3

Use a strip of black netting to cover the sides of the head, securing it with hot glue. Use the glow-in-the-dark paint, and paint eyes and mouth on a piece of paper. Cut these features out and secure to the stick man's face. The head is complete, empty, but complete.

  4. Step 4

The remaining steps need to be completed with an hour or two of wearing the costume, since the glow sticks will have to be activated as they are placed on the costume. Outline the head with the glow sticks, and secure with hot glue. Because you will have to bend the glow sticks to fit them in the shape of the head, they will be activated. The head is complete, empty, but complete.

  5. Step 5

For the stick man's body, use the glow sticks to make a stick man shape on the black shirt and pants. Don't forget to give the stick man a back too. Because the base of the costume is black, you want to be liberal with the glow sticks.

  6. Step 6

Make sure all the glow sticks are glowing, and the costume is complete. Put on shirt and pants, put on the head, and you are ready to go.
