How to Do Astral Travel
Many religions and New Age schools of thought believe that when you die a subtle energy separates from the physical body and enters a different realm, which some believe to be the astral plane. However, according to mystics and New Age theologians, you can also travel into this realm while bodily conscious, day or night. When you do, you can fly or go anyplace in the universe. Because astral travel requires deep relaxation, having a regular meditation practice can be helpful.

1
Lie on a bed or sit in a comfortable chair in a quiet room. Make sure that your spine is properly aligned. Close your eyes and breathe through your nose, drawing your breath deep into your abdomen. Observe your breath, while not forcing it, letting it happen naturally. Relax each part of your body from your toes to the top of your head, until you feel you have achieved a trancelike state. Imagining walking down a long flight of stairs can help you fall into such a state.

2
See in your mind's eye where you want to go. Once you have thought of a place, envision it with all of your senses. For example, if you choose the beach, imagine how the sand feels between your toes as you walk along the shore, the smell of the ocean in the air and the sound of the waves crashing.

Use all your energy to focus on that destination. One little distraction can bring your astral voyage to halt. Use a mantra such as "Beach, beach, beach" if you are having trouble focusing.
-
4
Remain focused when you feel the separation from the physical body. On the verge of separation, you may hear strange sounds such as your name being called or doors slamming. Do not be alarmed---this can happen, but it is a part of the process. Continue to remain focused.

5
Do not let yourself get overwhelmed once you have achieved that separation. Depending on how focused you are, you may either end up in your destination or the astral plane of your room. It is not uncommon for you to float or fly around once you have entered the astral realm. Explore your astral surroundings. When you want to return to your body, simply think about it and feel it, which will bring you back. Keep a journal to log your astral experiences.
