Instructions

    • 1

Apply paint stripper or acetone according to package directions. Alternately, spray Easy-Off oven cleaner on a section of paint until it's soaking wet. If you use oven cleaner, work in sections.

    • 2

Allow stripper or oven cleaner to sit long enough to begin melting paint, but do not let it dry.

    • 3

Use a rubber razor and sponge to remove paint.

    • 4

      Rinse with clean water.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you're concerned about putting oven cleaner on your boat, start out with the acetone or paint stripper from a marine specialty store. That may work well enough on your paint. Once the paint is removed, you may have "ghosting" where the name is still visible. A light, wet sanding should help with that.

  • Never let oven cleaner dry on your boat. Work quickly and rinse thoroughly, or it may damage the gelcoat.
