Using a ladder and measuring tape, measure the area that you would like to cover in lights. Think of your house as a picture and the lights as a frame. For your first effort, frame the door of your house or line the roof line with lights.

Go to your local home store and purchase all-weather outdoor Christmas lights. Read the box to match the amount of string needed with your measurements. Make sure to note if the lights are blinking or solid lights, and colored or clear. Make your selection and make sure all of the lights match.

Using the ladder and staple gun, start to hang the lights, with the lowest level first. Make sure to staple the lights every six inches into the side of the home.

Connect each string to the next one by plugging the three-prong plug into the outlet of the next string.

Don't forget to make the last cord end with the three-prong plug, so you can plug it into the extension cord.
