Spilling anything on your carpet can be upsetting, especially if it leaves a stain or seems difficult to remove. When melted wax drips or spills on carpet, it quickly covers all the carpet fibers in the area, down to the base. The wax dries quickly and can be difficult to pick out. If you spill wax on your carpet, don't panic. There is a process that can make wax one of the easiest spills to deal with. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Allow the wax to cool and harden, if it is still hot. If you attempt to lift warm wax, you may actually spread it around, creating more work for yourself.

    • 2

Use your dinner fork to lift any large pieces of wax from the surface only. Don't attempt to dig into the carpet with the fork, as it may damage your carpet fibers.

    • 3

Place a brown paper bag over the spot of wax. Make sure to cover the area completely, and remove loose wax from the surrounding area.

    • 4

Set your iron's heat to low. Gently smooth over your paper bag about four or five strokes. Do not push on or apply pressure to your iron. Synthetic carpet fibers may melt or fuse together when exposed to both heat and pressure at the same time.

    • 5

Lift the paper bag. It should appear shiny and oily. This is because the paper is soaking up the wax from your carpet. Apply a new paper bag and repeat this process as many times as you need to until the wax is completely out of your carpet. Continuing to use the same bag will result in the wax being re-deposited into your carpet.
