Brew traditional Turkish tea for a tasty treat.

Adventuresome tea lovers will have a lovely treat with the purchase of a Turkish teapot and Turkish black tea. A Turkish teapot is a double vessel with two teapots to use together or separately to brew tea. To make traditional Turkish tea, you use the two pots together; the larger pot is for boiling the water and the smaller pot is for brewing the tea. The result is a strong and distinctive black tea served piping hot in small teacups.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Turkish teapot
  • Turkish tea
  • Teaspoon
  • Water
  • Small teacups
  • Sugar
  1. Step 1

Fill the large teapot with water. Place 1 tsp. of Turkish tea for each serving of tea desired in the small teapot. Place the small teapot onto the large teapot and place the double teapot onto a stove burner.

  2. Step 2

Turn the burner on high to heat the water in the large teapot to boiling. When the water boils, turn the burner off and remove the double teapot from the stove.

  3. Step 3

Pour 1 cup of boiling water for every teaspoon of Turkish tea into the small teapot to make the tea. Make sure a small amount of boiling water remains in the large teapot. Place the small teapot back on the large teapot and set the double teapot back onto the burner. Set the burner to low.

  4. Step 4

Allow the tea to steep for 15 minutes on the burner. When the tea is ready to serve, the tea leaves will be at the bottom of the teapot and the tea will be on top. Turn the burner off after the steeping period.

  5. Step 5

Serve the tea in the small teacups with sugar only. Fill the small teacups approximately half full of tea and add hot water to the teacups from the large teapot, making the individual tea as strong or as weak as desired.

Tips & Warnings
  • Store Turkish tea in an airtight container to keep it fresh.
