The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a dependable, efficient sport-utility vehicle designed to handle all of the abuse you can throw at it. Sometimes the body of your Jeep will be the first part that needs replaced. Jeep Grand Cherokee rear bumpers/bumper covers are notorious for needing to be replaced before other parts of the vehicle. Removing the rear bumper cover is simple with just a few steps.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Socket wrenches
  • Assistant
  1. Step 1

Crawl under the rear of the Jeep and locate the four bumper cover mounting bolts on the back side of the metal undercarriage directly behind the bumper cover.

  2. Step 2

Have your assistant hold the bumper cover in place while you disconnect the license plate lights wiring harness from the back of the cover and remove the mounting bolts with the socket wrench.

  3. Step 3

Pull the bumper cover up and away from the Jeep's frame and discard it. Mount a new one in its place by reversing the steps.

  4. Step 4

Slide the new bumper cover in place and reconnect the wiring harness.

Tips & Warnings
  • It is always useful to have a small cut-off wheel handy in case you need to cut the mounting bolts free and remove the bumper.
