How to Create Windows 7 on a Flash Key to Upgrade a Netbook
A netbook is an inexpensive, very small laptop that is works well for checking email and browsing the Internet. One drawback of a netbook is that it does not have an optical drive (DVD player). This can cause you a potential headache when trying to upgrade to a new operating system such as Windows 7.

Place a USB flash key into an open slot on your netbook.

Click the "Start" button and type "cmd" in the instant search bar. Right-click on the "cmd" entry and select "Run as Administrator." The command window will open for you type your next command.

Type the word "diskpart," and then type list disk to display your disks. Next, select the "USB flash key disk." You can look at the size to determine the appropriate disk. For example, if you have a 4GB USB flash key, choose the disk that displays the size 4GB.

Type "Select Disk 1," and then type "clean" to prepare the disk for the Windows 7 media. Once the disk is clean, a message will appear that Diskpart succeeded in cleaning your disk.

Type "create partition primary," and then type active to make the disk active. Format the disk by typing Format FS=Fat32. A progress bar will start at 0 and continue to 100. At 100, the USB portable media has been formatted correctly. You now can download the Windows 7 portable media from the Internet, and copy it to your portable media (flash key), or take the DVD with the Windows 7 media to a computer that has an optical drive and copy it from the DVD to your portable media. Once it is copied, you are ready to upgrade to Windows 7 on your Netbook.
