Getting a swine flu vaccination can be scary for kids. But it is essential that they a swine flu vaccination. They are the hardest hit and most likely to end up hospitalized for it.

  1. Step 1

    Try talking first. Once the kids hear that they are going to be getting a shot for the swine flu vaccine they will not be happy. But the best approach is to explain to them that they will be getting one little shot to prevent a very long sickness. Do not scare them about the swine flu. But be honest.

  2. Step 2

    Tell them ahead of time. Do not try to surprise them. Children actually do better when they have time to prepare themselves for the upcoming shot.

  3. Step 3

    Let them bring a favorite toy or something that they find comfort in. This way they can hold it when they are nervous about the shot.

  4. Step 4

    When you are in the waiting area to get the swine flu vaccination talk about something else. They do not need to discus the situation. If your child brings the conversation that way try to change the topic after addressing their concerns.

  5. Step 5

    Let them pick a special dinner after the shot. It is a kind of bribe but they deserve a reward for being brave and getting the swine flu vaccination.
