Things You'll Need:
- Pine Sol
- Vacuum Cleaner
- Spray Bottle
- Diatomaceous Earth

Step 1
Pine Sol & Warm Water
Mix one half cup of Pine Sol with one gallon of warm water. Fill a spray bottle and spray around the room. Windows, door frames, foot rails, etc. should be sprayed.
Vacuum the carpet in the room. Be sure to vacuum all carpeted areas.
Next, fill a shampooer with the Pine Sol solution and shampoo the carpet. Make sure you are shampooing the carpet slowly and thoroughly.
The Pine Sol will immediately kill the fleas. -
Step 2
Prevention - DE
To make sure to kill off any newly hatched fleas from any eggs that remain deep in the carpet or hidden in the room, cover the carpet with DE. This is a product that is used in swimming pool filters and can be found at Lowe's and other home improvement stores. It is called Diatomaceous Earth.
Diatomaceous Earth is the fossilized remains of microscopic shells created by one celled plants called diatoms. It is natural and safe. It kills fleas by puncturing their exoskeleton and absorbing the moisture in their bodies. It desiccates the fleas. -
Step 3
Vacuuming Daily
For a couple of weeks, you will want to vacuum daily to make sure to remove any eggs or fleas that were carried in by your pets or that were hidden during the prior cleaning. Vacuuming kills most fleas and is a very effective method for removing fleas. -
Step 4
Going outside the home
Don't despair. Infestations are a pain but they do actually go away if you follow the steps to remove both the live fleas and their eggs. The last thing you want to do though is to make sure to take action to prevent new fleas from entering your home. Here's how:
Spray the Pine Sol solution around windows, doors and entranceways to your home.
Bathe your pets regularly and treat them for fleas as well.
Purchase nematodes and praying mantis for your yard to eat and kill fleas where they start. In the grass. These items are available from www.planetnatural.comand are completely safe.
