Things You'll Need:
- An old sheet or other old fabric
- Thread & a needle
- Black felt tip marker
- Luminescent paint (optional)
- Black ribbon (optional)
-
Step 1
Gather an old bed sheet, preferably white; but the ghost would also look good in a light green, light yellow, or even a faded gray. If you don’t have an old bed sheet or other material like a bed sheet on hand, you may find something inexpensive to use at a thrift store to make these Halloween decorations.
-
Step 2
Cut a square to fit the size that you would like your Halloween ghost to be. My scrap bed sheet material was actually sort of small already, so I decided not to make my Halloween ghost very big. My ghosts are about two feet long, so I used about four feet of the material for the body of each one.
-
Step 3
Now that you have your square cut out, you will need more fabric to use to stuff the head of the Halloween ghost. You could also use quilt/pillow batting or even a Styrofoam ball that is sized to your preference, but I chose just to use more of my scrap bed sheet material to stuff the head to the size that I wanted.
-
Step 4
With the head stuffed, you now need to close off the head portion to keep the stuffing inside the Halloween ghost. Take a threaded needle and stitch the ghost neck close by putting a stitch on one side of the neck and then pulling the thread to the opposite side of the neck; going around the neck until the neck is as tight as you prefer. I chose to have a wider neck on my ghost, so I didn’t pull my stitches very tight.
-
Step 5
Using a felt tip marker, now you can draw a face on your Halloween ghost. Make your Halloween ghost as scary or happy as you prefer to fit your style of Halloween decorations. I also used luminescent paint for ghostly accents on the facial features, so that they glow a bit at night.
-
Step 6
Next, take the portion of the bed sheet that is hanging below the neck and shred or cut it to create the ghostly effect that you prefer.
-
Step 7
You will need to sew some thread to the top of the head to make a loop for hanging your Halloween ghost. I would suggest making the thread at least double thick so it will be stronger for hanging or using a heavier thread, wire or nylon line.
-
Step 8
On one side of the ghost take a portion of the bottom section and stitch it towards the head, not tightly though. This provides a ghostly effect of floating.
-
Step 9
For a final ghostly touch wrap ribbon around the neck and make a bow in the front of the neck, then stitch the ribbon and bow into place. If you’re more creative than I am, add your own touches to the ghost to create the appearance that you prefer for your Halloween decorations!
