Polish Your Silverware

Polishing silverware can be done with ease and without harmful chemicals. This step by step article will teach you how to polish your silverware by using natural ingredients to remove the tarnish from the silverware and make your silverware shine like they are brand new.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Silverware
  • Baking soda
  • Salt
  • Hot water
  • Small bowl
  • Sponge
  • Soft cloth or rag
  1. Step 1

    Polishing Your Silverware.

The first step is to take a small or medium size bowl. Add about two cups of baking soda to the bowl along with four tablespoons of salt. Then add just enough hot water to the baking soda and salt mixture to make it pasty. Stir the mixture until you have a loose paste.

  2. Step 2

Next, take your sponge and dab a generous portion of the baking soda/salt mixture onto it. Then take a piece of silverware and start polishing the silverware by scrubbing in small circular motions. Start at the bottom of the silverware and make small circular motions all the way to the top of the silverware.

  3. Step 3

Next, rinse the piece of polished silverware under running cold water. Use your fingers to clean the baking soda/salt mixture off of the silverware while the running cold water is rinsing the past off of the silverware.

  4. Step 4

Lastly, take a soft cloth or a rag and finish dry polishing the piece of silverware until you have a nice shiny finish. Continue to do this with the rest of your silverware until you have polished all of the silverware.

Tips & Warnings
  • The baking soda/salt mixture polishes the silverware by removing the tarnish while shining the silverware.
  • This polishing method can be used on regular silverware as well as stainless steel silverware.

on 9/17/2009 Cool! I have a lot of silver and hat using chemical tarnish removers. Will keep this in my favorites for the next polishing session. Good article.
