Promise rings signify many different things. One common reason for giving a woman a promise ring is to tell her that although it is not yet the right time for an engagement, you will remain faithful to her until that time comes. Other rings signify platonic friendship or a commitment to purity. The latter are often called purity rings and are usually given to a daughter. Many ring styles are available, but with a little research and close observation, you can select a ring that is appropriate for your special woman.

Determine what the promise ring signifies. This makes a difference in the finger the recipient will wear the ring on and the style of the ring.

Notice what kind of jewelry she wears, especially rings. If she wears jewelry that is mostly small and dainty, she probably will not enjoy a large, chunky ring. If she wears mostly gold, she may prefer that metal over silver. Get to know her preferences through many weeks of careful observation.
