How to Fish With Tube Jigs

Tube fishing lures are a popular choice of fishermen who pursue species of fish feed on crayfish. These lures are effective when working in heavy cover and shallow water, but they do require the angler to use a different method of fishing than he would with most other lures. After getting familiar with a few tube fishing techniques, you can use them for more consistent results.

Instructions

    • 1

Use proper equipment to fish tubes effectively. A spinning rod and reel loaded with light line will work best.

    • 2

Fish the tubes in conditions that are well-suited for it. Shallow, clear water in areas with underwater structures are prime locations for tube lures.

    • 3

Cast tube lures right into structure. Let the lure sink without imparting any movement to it. The idea is to simulate a dying bait fish and trigger the fish's predatory instinct.

    • 4

Let the tube lure sit on the bottom briefly, then raise your rod tip. Be ready for the feel of a fish, as most fish hit a tube quickly. Repeat this sequence a couple of times, then reel in the lure and cast it to start the process again.

    • 5

Try dragging the tube across the bottom in slow, short movements by sweeping your rod tip horizontally. Use the technique across rocks and shoals, imitating the scurrying of a crayfish.
