Choose the materials. Whether your craft is for function or decoration, the materials should be able to withstand the wear and tear it will encounter. If a doll is being created, think about what type of fabric is sturdy, yet soft enough for a small child.

Create a clean surface with a disposable protective covering such as a piece of paper or plastic. Outline the steps prior to beginning.
