Step 1
Locate a proxy server from tech-faq.com (see Resources). This list is updated daily, so you can find a new one if the old proxy server is taken offline.
-
Step 2
Click the "Tools" menu bar in your browser and select "Options." This opens a configuration window where the proxy server's IP address or domain name can be entered into the browser. In this example, Firefox is used, but the same process is available in Internet Explorer.
-
Step 3
Click the "Advanced" icon and click the "Settings" button in the "Connections" section. In this window, enter the proxy server name taken in step one in the "HTTP Proxy" textbox. Enter the port number as well. This number is typically 80, 8080 or 3128.
-
Step 4
Click the "Ok" button. Open a new browser window and attempt to access the website. Since Websense blocks websites by IP address, the IP used to access the Internet is now the IP address of the proxy server instead of the IP of the blocked website. This bypasses the Websense filters.
