How to Remove Rose Petals From the Stem

One way to preserve the essence of the rose is to remove and collect the rose petals. Rose petals not only symbolize love but they can be used for potpourri, perfume, or a way to symbolize a person or a memory. Although the rose may die after a few weeks in a vase, dried petals can last much longer. Picking rose petals is not hard and is the best thing you can do to make your rose last longer.

Things You'll Need

• Clippers
• Gloves
• Wire
• Clothing hanger

Instructions

1. Select a rose in full bloom, early in the morning when there is still dew on the flowers.

2. Cut the rose blossom off as close to the stem as possible with clippers. Wear gloves and hold the stem in place with one hand when doing this.

3. Poke a piece of wire through the center of the rose blossom. Wrap the wire around a clothing hanger and hang in a cool, dark place for two weeks to dry.

4. Pick the rose petals from the blossom and use them for potpourri or give to someone as a romantic gift. The petals should fall off easily.

Tips & Warnings

• You can use roses all of the same color or an assortment of different roses. Hang multiple blossoms to collect more petals.

• Rose thorns are extremely sharp so wear protection on the hands.
