How to Make Information Products

Information products, such as eBooks, Audio and Video are the best kinds of products to sell online. They aren't that hard to create, they aren't too costly, and the information products you make can provide you with a lifetime of residual income.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Information products do require a lot of planning. Remember, you want hundreds, if not, thousands of people to read, listen or watch what you have to say about the subject you pick, so you must plan ahead. Be prepared to work hard and setup a schedule for yourself each day for when you are available to work on your project. This is especially useful if you are working a full time job at the same time.

  2. Step 2

Brainstorm. You're going to want to grab a notebook and start thinking about topics that you are interested in, or have a vast knowledge of that you can provide to others. Write down the top 10 things you know how to do, and narrow the list down to maybe 3 or 4 of your favorite topics from that list.

  3. Step 3

For each of the remaining topics or niches, specialized research must be done. Do some Google Searches on each of those topics to see if there are any information products that exist already.

If they do exist, that's a good sign that there is a market out there for that niche. Don't be too worried about competition. Competition is good, and you can blow them away with your information products once they are created.

If they do not exist, that's great too, however further keyword and search research must be done to determine if it is a topic that is widely searched for. Maybe there's a reason why no one has created an information product for that topics yet.

  4. Step 4

Once you have your topic, create an outline (similar to a table of contents) of the E-Book you want to write, the audio files you want to create, and video you want to record. Your information products should make sense to whoever is reading or watching them.

Although you don't have any material yet, you can pretend to be a future customer. Walk through your outline as if you purchased the product and see if the order makes sense, and also if anything seems to be missing from your lessons.

  5. Step 5

Get over your fear. Many people want to create their own information products, and even plan to do it, but once they have to start writing or recording, fear sets in and they give up. You've come this far already and have a great outline, don't be scared and just do it! There's no reason not to.

  6. Step 6

Use your outline to create the various types of information products for you and your company that you're going to market and sell. There are various resources and tools, both offline and offline that you can use to create your information products. They are listed below in the resources section.

Tips & Warnings
  • When creating your information products, whether it's an E-Book, Audio, or video, you don't have to create the material in order that is shown on your outline. Use your outline as a checklist and just write or record what you know you can, and the momentum will help you finish those topics you didn't want to write or record before.
  • Be sure that when you create your own information product, you obtain all the rights to whatever you are saying and you are not infringing on anyone or any other company's intellectual property. The best thing to do would be to hire an attorney to make sure you and your products check out legally before you begin marketing your information products.
