Step 1
Rule out medical conditions.
Unfortunately, tiredness is a common symptom of a number of medical conditions (i.e. anemia, hypothyroidism, etc). When you are trying to figure out why you are tired, it is important to exclude medical conditions. In this instance, it is important to consult with a healthcare provider as he/she may perform other assessments (or ask you questions) that may help in figuring it all out. -
Step 2
Rule out dietary intake of energy-zapping foods.
For simplicity’s sake, the foods that we eat either give us energy or drain our energy. The latter type usually gives us a quick burst of energy followed by a slow and uncomfortable decline. These include foods that fall into the junk food category (i.e. sodas, candy bars, etc). Highly processed food can have the same effect. To assess whether your tiredness is related to your dietary intake, consider having a breakfast of high energy foods first thing in the morning –like a green smoothie (fruit smoothie with green leafy vegetable added-yes, they are good!!) Do this for few days and see if you notice a difference. -
Step 3
Rule out emotions.
Believe it or not, negative emotions can make you feel physically tired. Have you ever gotten into an argument with someone and afterward feel like you’ve been in a fist fight? If so, you know what I mean. Negative emotions take a lot of our body’s energy if we allow it. If there is an issue in your life that is weighing on you, this could explain why you’re tired all the time. Consider doing an inventory of such life factors and figure out a way to address them. In this way, you’ll be able to release the energy that has been literally bound up with your emotional state. -
