If you are looking for a great way to clean the interior of your stainless steel dishwasher keep reading! We use well-water in our home and our stainless steel dishwasher gets loaded with hard water and mineral stains after about a month of heavy use. I found a great product at Kroger in the dishwasher detergent aisle called Glisten that does a great job getting the tough stains out and keeps your dishwasher sparking clean. Here is how you use it.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Go to Kroger or your local supermarket and buy a package of Glisten Dishwasher detergent. It has a giant lemon on the front of it. This product is an all natural citric acid powder, so it is not harmful to you, pets, or to your appliances.

  2. Step 2

Make sure your dishwasher is empty and pour the entire package of Glisten into the main wash soap well. I also pour some into the smaller dishwasher soap well also. You will still have some left over, so pour all of the excess into the bottom of your dishwasher and sprinkle it around.

  3. Step 3

Close your empty dishwasher and run it through a regular wash cycle. I usually turn off the heated drying when using this product just to allow the product to work during the wash.

  4. Step 4

Once your dishwasher has finished going through the wash cycle, has drained, and has stopped - open up your dishwasher door to allow the steam to escape and to let your dishwasher air-dry. Allow your dishwasher to air-dry for about 30 minutes.

  5. Step 5

Take a look inside your dishwasher and see how well this product has started stripping off the hard water and mineral stains from the base and sides of your dishwasher. Hopefully, it has cleaned the majority of the grime off. If you have really hard water like I do, then you will need to do this once a month, and you may even need to apply a second pacakage of Glisten the first time you do this.

  6. Step 6

Repeat once or every three months as needed.

  7. Step 7

TIP: If your dishes and glasses also have hard water stains on them, you can also run them in the dishwasher with Glisten to get rid of the mineral build up. Make sure that you read the warning on the package regarding the types of dishes not to use with Glisten. Works great!

Tips & Warnings
  • Run glisten in an empty dishwasher first.
  • If you have really hard water, you may need to run two pacakges of Glisten through the wash cycle.
  • Repeat monthly or every three months.
