the first thing you are going to want to do is build up your base strength. You are going to want to perform squats, deadlifts, oly lifts, etc. The important part about training and lifting is that you train your muscles with a purpose. If you want to jump high and run fast, your training has to be explosive. Be as fast as you can with the weight while using proper technique and still being under control.

Once you have built up this strength, you are going to be able to convert more muscle to functional or reactive strength through plyometrics and jumping. The more muscle you have, the more you can convert. When performing plyometrics and other jumping exercises, less reps is more. Think about quality and purpose. If you aren't jumping your heighest or you aren't trying anymore, STOP! Once you have crossed that line, you are training your muscles for endurance. That is not what we want.
