Baby showers celebrate the upcoming birth of a child. Parents, friends or relatives organize the party, and guests bring gifts, such as clothes, toys and other materials needed by a newborn baby. Creating baby shower invitations yourself will add a personal touch to the event and make your baby shower party more memorable.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Printed paper or cardstock
  • Envelopes
  • Clip art or photographs
  • Gift registry cards
  • Ribbons or other decoration
  1. Step 1

Pick a nursery rhyme that you want to use for the invitation. You may want to refer to nursery rhyme books, as well as rhymes you learned when you were young. Popular nursery rhymes include "Baa Baa Black Sheep," "A Tisket, A Tasket" and "Rock-a-Bye Baby."

Rhymes that are short and sweet are suited for baby shower invitations because you want to get your message across right away. If you want to choose nursery rhymes based on the gender of the baby, good choices are "Little Boy Blue" for boys and "Mary Had a Little Lamb" for girls.

  2. Step 2

Buy the invitation paper and envelopes. Invitation paper is available at print shops and bookstores or you can make them yourself. Buy cardstock in your preferred color and cut each invitation to 4-by-5.25-inches. Envelopes are available in boutique print shops, office supply stores or bookstores.

You may want to trim the card edges with patterned scissors to personalize your invitations. Or you can use stencil shapes to cut the cards into baby-related shapes, depending on the nursery rhyme you used. Shapes that depict a teddy bear, baby rattle, lamb or cradle are good choices.

  3. Step 3

Use a word processor to design the invitation. Type the nursery rhyme that you want to use and creatively insert the name of the parents or the baby into the rhyme. For example, change any names or pronouns in the rhyme with the parents' or baby's name to make the invitation more personalized. Add party details below the rhyme. You may want to use clip art or photographs that depict the animals or situations in the rhyme.

  4. Step 4

Add necessary details to the invitation, such as time, day, place and theme of the baby shower. You may want to write an RSVP note on the invitation as well as include a gift registry card. Gift registry cards are available at the stores where the mother-to-be is signed up.

  5. Step 5

Print the invitations. Adjust the margins on the word processor according to the size of the card. After printing, you may want to add other decorations or embellishments to the invitation, such as a ribbon in blue or pink.
